This group must be The Most Original group on this planet. Their
every album is somewhat unique, somewhat different, but yet one can easily
recognise that it is Yello. In other words, they keep reinventing
themselves every time and yet they manage to keep their originality at
the same time as well. I must admit I have not been listening to them extensively
for that long, I had only heard some of their songs before, such as Oh
Yeah, Vicious Games and Bostich. Only in the last few
years I really got into their music. Yello's music is not for everyone.
One must understand, one must grasp that notion of originality, funkiness
and coolness, one must appreciate the way Boris Blank uses his sounds,
one must visualize what Dieter Meier is trying to say in his lyrics.
Even though there are no big messages hidden in their songs, every track
creates a mini-movie in my head. To me they are the only group who have
not produced a single bad track on any of the albums! Every one of them
is a unique piece of musical art!
Their
latest offering, Pocket Universe, is, as expected, full of typical
Yello magic again. Even though this album has a very heavy techno feel,
it is still full of surprises and does not lose that uniqueness which says
"You are listening to Yello". I hope they will continue producing their
great music for a long time yet! |
